Grape farming can be done in tropical as well sub-tropical climate condition. Basically, this crop requires dried and sunny atmosphere to thrive their best. Temperature along with humidity, moderate rainfall, and frost conditions are some factors which affect the production.

Never cultivate grapes on the coastal region since this crop has to tolerance to high humidity and heavy rainfall. Also, frost conditions during vegetative growth stages lead to low production. Also, an optimum temp. ranging between 18 °C to 38 °C is considered as the best for growing grapes. However, a clear atmosphere for about three months is required during the growing period.

Note: Low temp. along with high humidity, cloudy weather and heavy rainfall during the flowering season and berry development lessen the crop growth and the production or yield. So, never grow grapes in such region where the minimum rainfall is less than 900 mm.

Grapes farming can be done over a wide variety of soils. However, loamy soil ranging from sandy soil to clayed soil with good organic matter content and drainage is considered as the best suitable for growing grapes commercially.

If your soil has any micronutrient deficiency, then it should be supplemented at the time of the last plowing. It is a good idea to add about 1000 kg of neem cake along with 10 tonnes of well-rotted farmyard manure per hectare land at the time of the last plowing only so that any micronutrient deficiency should be removed.

The easiest way of propagating grapes is to grow grapes from hardwood cuttings.

Though, you can also grow grapes from seed, budding, layering, budding and grafting methods.

Nowadays, grape crop is also cultivated through planting rootstock on the main field with a suitable cultivar.

The spacing in grape farming varies according to the variety and the type of soil, used for cultivation. For organic grape farming, a spacing of 3.00 x 1.50 meters, 2.50 x 1.50 meters, and 2.75 x 1.50 meters is sufficient enough for growing about more than 2500 plants per hectare land.

For planting grapes, dig the pits of size, 90 cm X 90 cm X 90 cm and fill it with well-rotted farmyard manure along with soil. This needs about 50 tonnes of farmyard manure per hectare land.

A light irrigation is should be done for well settling of soil in the pits. Usually, for commercial grape cultivation, the plantation is done with the rectangular system of planting for optimum production.

It is always a good thing to add about 1000 kg of neem cake along with 50 tonners of well rotten farmyard manure per hectare land at last plowing during preparing land for grapes farming so that if your soil should have any micronutrient deficiency, then it should be supplemented.

In grapes farming, 900 kg of Nitrogen, 600 kg of Phosphorous and 1000 kg of Potassium should be supplemented to the grapes fields, every year. Biofertilizers and liquid pesticides can help you more in attaining good quality grapes production.

Also, apply Azatobacter, Trichoderma, and PSB @ 25 gm per vine to improve the quality of fruits and also enhance the plant growth. Spraying humic acid in the solution of sugar along with coconut water is also effective in improving the fruit quality.
